![]() That explains why my earlier experiments with repopulating 1.7 terrain to get 1.8 features didn't work. I must have done it when I repopulated my Nether to get quartz, but subsequently forgot it was necessary, especially since it doesn't really prompt you in any way. Apparently you have to hit save before MCEdit actually does anything - unless you are deleting chunks, which is most of what I've done with it. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or will this just not work? I've never used MCEdit for anything besides working with chunks (deleting, repopulating, the occasional copy/paste to fix an error), so I'm reluctant to try to add in the blocks of a stronghold.ĮDIT: It worked! I did something stupid earlier. ![]() However, I tried this multiple times (correcting for the changed locations of strongholds in 1.7/8 - I even made a new map with the same seed and found the exact spot), and while the trees seemed to regenerate, I looked underground in a map viewer and saw no stronghold and not even any mineshafts. Everything I've read about the 'population' step of terrain generation leads me to believe that I should be able to use MCEdit to set the chunks around where a stronghold should be to repopulate, and it will generate the next time I load them. What I am finally trying to do is get the best of both worlds: the original terrain, but with a stronghold underneath. Since I had already explored and built stuff past their locations back before strongholds were added, I couldn't get access to them, or to The End, without basically transplanting a region file worth of newer terrain that includes one - keeping the original file saved elsewhere so I can switch back. My main map is a very old one, dating back to Beta 1.3 when I first played Minecraft, and I've kept it around, avoiding weird terrain mismatches by tunneling far away in the Nether and generating a separate new area for each time the world generation changed. ![]() (If there were more than just 3 of them in a map, this wouldn't be an issue.) I have a weird question about a problem which has been bugging me for a long time - ever since strongholds were added to the game, in fact. (#spoiler) = neat!
